Powerful Places

Have you ever been to a place that totally humbled and inspired you?

Some years ago I visited the Northern Territory and the Kimberley in Western Australia. Part of our journey was on the Tanami, a long, rough, dusty road through the outback wilderness of northern Australia. The night we camped out there, 450 kms from civilisation, was one of the most powerful experiences of my life.

It was the first time I’d ever experienced nature in full force. Yet it was nothing to do with any kind of natural weather event. It was just being present within an environment where nothing was man-made and we were at the mercy of the elements. The energy of this place was formidable and it was impossible not to feel swallowed up by it.

It was the overwhelming silence and vastness that made me realise that humans are so vulnerable and really just an infinitesimal part of a much greater cosmos. The huge night sky sparkled with millions of pin pricks of starry light that brought the rest of the Universe closer, the Earth seemed to hum with its own heartbeat, the trees towered majestically above us holding space, and the spinifex that engulfed our campsite was a reminder to not wander around blindly without direction.

The haunting, distant howl of a dingo was the only sound that intermittently pierced the silence. I had such a sense of overwhelming peace and comfort. It felt like the energy of the Earth became part of me that night, putting everything into perspective and allowing me to realise that in the greater scheme of things, humans are not really in control.

I know now that the feeling we sometimes have of not belonging or being disconnected from the world is really because we are disconnected from the Earth. If you want to gain a higher understanding of yourself, go and immerse yourself in nature.

Around the globe there are many famous sites well known for offering energetic experiences that allow you to connect with your higher self. Places where the veil between heaven and earth is thinner. I have visited some of these sites, and they are certainly incredible and worth visiting, but I’ve also experienced this in simpler places closer to home, my own powerful places that have become special to me.

There is no doubt that connecting with nature opens the heart and brings clarity to the mind. When you align with this greater force, it’s much easier to understand your true purpose and feel inspired to make a difference. You find yourself looking for ways to fulfil your greatest dreams and desires, because deep inside you know what you’re really here for and if you follow the right path, you can’t really go wrong.

The Earth is definitely something to be respected. I know that Mother Nature is totally in control of her own destiny and moves through the natural re-birthing cycles that have existed since the beginning of time and will continue to do so long after we are gone.

Nature provides a smorgasbord of beautiful opportunities to connect and the best thing we can do is show respect for her power while gratefully utilising her wisdom.

So I’d love to know - have you found your special place?

Why Visit a Sacred Site

Research has shown that there is a definite trend away from taking annual vacations to do nothing but lie on a beach and relax while sipping cocktails. While there’s nothing wrong with this, increasingly as people awaken and become more aware of the natural world, there is a stronger desire to enrich the soul by visiting sacred sites.

There are many energetically powerful places around the world that offer spiritual experiences and religious pilgrimages which help visitors to find more meaning in their lives. For example, many sacred shrines and temples hold healing energies because they are visited by thousands of people who use them for meditation and prayer, and have also been visited and blessed by saints and holy people. It is common to hear of miracles occurring at such sites.

Nature itself provides an abundance of healing energies and vortexes in certain destinations, many of which are well known. Mysteries surround places like Sedona in the USA, Lake Titicaca in Peru, Mt Kailash in Tibet and Uluru in Australia, to name a few. The extraordinary energies that exist in these places can lead to highly significant experiences for an individual who becomes aligned with their energies, with many life-changing results having been reported. They bring heaven and earth closer together and visiting them offers an easier way to connect with the inner self.

However, any place can offer an allure because of a specific personal attraction. This could be because of a known ancestral or past life experience there or just something about it that draws a person’s attention for no obvious reason. We all have unconscious memories, so the places we develop a desire to visit can be quite outside of our awareness, we just know the pull is strong.

You don’t have to walk the Camino to have a personal pilgrimage (although I can recommend this, having done it myself). It’s just a matter of visiting somewhere that has a personal significance for you, and you can have that life-changing experience by just following your own intuition.

The important thing is that you go to where you are drawn, you connect with the higher consciousness of this physical place, and draw from it the wisdom and energy that it offers. Travelling to a sacred site is a special experience and guaranteed to provide a deeper insight into your spiritual purpose and offer the peace and fulfillment we all crave.

Who Loves Travelling?

As you live your life you’re writing a story. The people you connect with become characters within this story and the places you visit are the scenes. Travelling opens us up to a wealth of valuable experiences. We get to learn about new cultures, be awestruck by the beauty of different landscapes, do things you may never have tried before and taste new cuisines. There is nothing like the spirit of adventure to inspire and enrich your soul. To me travelling is expansive for the mind, opening you up to understand the way different people live, and the more different that is from your own life, the better. We are a diverse planet of people and places and there is so much to explore.

I’ve travelled all over the world and it has become my number one value. It fact it seems that most people have a bucket list. I feel so grateful to have had the experiences I’ve had and they’re not over yet! I believe that more and more people are seeking meaningful journeys, pilgrimages and visits to destinations that uplift and offer more than just shopping, eating and sightseeing.

Over the past few years I have made a point of visiting places that I’ve been connected with in past lives. This can happen spontaneously as it did the first time I landed in London and burst into tears, with an overwhelming feeling of coming home. I was only 19 then. Or it can be more deliberate such as when I visited the parks and canyons of the US seeking my native American roots and visiting Salem where I’d had a life during the witch trials. The emotional reaction to that journey left me in no doubt that I was remembering something very real.

There are many energetically powerful places in the world to visit, even if they are only significant to you, and I urge you to enrich your life by delving deep into new experiences and cultures. It really helps to put things into perspective, not to mention that spending time away from the stresses of your daily life allows you to relax and open you up to new possibilities. Most of my goals and decisions on what to do next in my life have manifested after some kind of travel experience. This doesn’t have to be a complicated overseas trip. Have a look in your own backyard and you will see that possibilities for a magical adventure are right there, particularly in Australia where there are so many hidden gems of beauty and empowerment to be discovered.

How are you going to add to your story? I’d love to know where in the world your soul is calling you to visit.
